Layne Tubby
CPDT-KA, RVT, VSA-CDT, PMCT4
As co-owner of Good Dog Training & Behavior, Layne provides in-home training and behavior modification services. She also teaches group classes and offers day training in conjunction with Wyolina Kennels in Harrisburg, North Carolina.
As a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) and her 30-year career as a Veterinary Practice Manager and Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), Layne has devoted her life's work to fostering animals’ well-being. In addition to CPDT and RVT certifications, Layne is a Pat Miller Certified Trainer (PMCT4), a Victoria Stilwell Certified Dog Trainer, and a Fear Free Certified Professional Trainer/Technician.
Layne is dedicated to practicing science-based, force-free, positive reinforcement training with a special interest in behavior. She regularly furthers her skills and knowledge by pursuing continuing education and has studied under Dr. Sophia Yin, Dr. Karen Overall, Dr. Amy Pike, Dr. Leslie Sinn, Victoria Stilwell, Chirag Patel, and Michael Shikasio. She maintains memberships in The Pet Professional Guild (PPG), Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), Fear Free Certified Professionals, & the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB).
Layne started her first dog training business in 2015. A few years later she moved to Maryland to further her dog training education with renowned author/trainer Pat Miller. She worked as a lead trainer there while completing an intensive three year internship that included regularly attending and assisting advanced academies for trainers.
Although she’s originally from Roswell, Georgia and attended college in Kansas, Layne has lived in the Charlotte, North Carolina area for over 35 years. Her rescued furry family includes a Staffordshire bull terrier named Stilwell, Miller the Pug, and a cat named Petula. She's currently working to become a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant (CBCC) in 2026.




Jill is one of a handful of professionals to hold both Certified Behavior Consultant Canine-Knowledge-Assessed (CBCC-KA) and Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge-Assessed (CPDT-KA) certifications. She is also an Animal Behavior College dog trainer program honors graduate and the trainer for Thin Line Service Dogs. As Good Dog Training & Behavior’s co-owner, Jill conducts in-home behavior modification services and teaches group classes at Wyolina Kennels in Harrisburg, North Carolina.
Jill demonstrates her commitment to professional integrity by maintaining memberships in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), Animal Positive Coalition (APC), & the Pet Professional Guild (PPG). She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
Her career highlights include launching Happy Hound Training in the greater Washington, DC area, co-founding R+K9, Winchester, Virginia’s largest force-free training facility, serving as a lead trainer and the Director of Service Dog Programs for world-renowned author and dog trainer Pat Miller, opening and managing a dog daycare, running America’s VetDogs’ service dog training prison puppy program in Hagerstown, MD, building a successful dog walking and pet sitting company, and inventing an innovative train-your-own service dog program.
Jill tirelessly works to increase her knowledge of various training-related issues including learning theory, behavior, cognition, and ethology. She regularly attends workshops and seminars to stay abreast of the most up-to-date dog training methodologies and theories. Jill’s continuing education has included work with dog training luminaries Sue Sternberg, Suzanne Clothier, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Linda Tellington-Jones, Ken McCort, Dr. Susan Friedman, Ken Ramirez, Shade Whitesel, Pat Miller, and others.
Jill has worked with animals for more than 40 years, including nearly 20 years as a professional dog trainer.
