When we adopted our nine-month-old hound-mix puppy, we became his fifth home. “Ziggy” had absolutely no manners. We enrolled him in one of Layne’s basic manner’s classes where she taught us strategies and positive reinforcement techniques to teach Ziggy how to be able to co-exist with us in our home. Layne was very kind and professional. She answered a multitude of e-mails, phone calls, and texts when we had questions. She provided printed resources for us to further understand her force-free approach to training. She even came to our house. We will be forever grateful to Layne for her patience and kindness when working with us and would highly recommend her.

I was happy for Layne but at the same time saddened to see her leave Peaceable Paws to return to NC., for she’s an exceptional instructor. I had the pleasure of having her for an instructor in Basic Good Manners with my very fearful Miniature Schnauzer, Raisin, a puppy mill survivor. I will be forever grateful for Layne’s understanding of the many challenges I faced with this little dog and her empathy, compassion and patience with a dog for whom everything was new and scary. I had the great pleasure of assisting Layne with a number of training classes at Peaceable Paws. Layne was always super prepared for class and had a warm and upbeat approach to helping pet "parents" learn how to help their dogs become happy, responsible family members. She absolutely believes training should be fun for all involved, and it was! She would always take the time to calmly and kindly help students (human or canine) when they were struggling. and would enthusiastically acknowledge every milestone in the training journey, Layne had many repeat clients, which speaks volumes to her ability to connect with those who look to her for help and guidance with dog training. Our families first training class with Ms. Layne as a basic good manners class with our newly added puppy, Raylan. Having been involved in dog rescue organizations in the past I was familiar with the fundamentals of positive reinforcement training but was looking to brush up on my basic skills and learn some advanced techniques to get Raylan off to an amazing start. After the first class with Ms.Layne I knew she was exactly what we needed and looked for in a dog trainer. Ms. Layne is hands down one of the most knowledgeable positive reinforcement trainers I have ever met & also has a background in the veterinary medicine area that adds to her knowledge & expertise. Training can be a stressful process for owners as often times we think it is a sprint instead of a marathon, but Layne is amazing at reiterating to everyone that it is not an overnight process & provides us with the building blocks in step-by-step instructions to be successful. As Raylan grew he became very nervous in certain settings due to an incident he had when a neighbor’s dog got loose. Layne was able to see the changes in Raylan and stepped up in class to help us learn as a family how to help Raylan through the struggles he was having. We were treated as family & always had multiple ways to contact Layne with any questions or concerns we had even outside of class lessons. Layne took the initiative with each student to learn about our dogs so she could place us in the best suited classroom area for easy training sessions for all. We learned so much from Layne & she has been such an amazing part of our journey with Raylan. Layne cares deeply for each family in her training classes & it shows. We were selfishly devastated when she told us she was moving away, but we are so happy inside to know she will be able to help hundreds of folks through her training. Regardless of your skill level there are a ton of things to be learned from Layne & we speak from experience when we say you won't be disappointed by reaching out to her to help train your best friend!
